Amray Berlt

Lives & works in Cottbus, Germany

A LIFE WITH MULTIPLE INSPIRING FACETTES

CELEBRATING FREEDOM
Born within the political and cultural restrictions of the former GDR - a world where clothes, houses, things had colours that usually lacked beauty and brilliance, Amray has come to especially embrace vivid and bright colours - as symbols for freedom and life. She loves strong contrasts to make these colours appear to glow.

HER JOURNEY
Her longing for freedom led her to various places in the world, such as England - where she spent 1 year almost directly after the fall of the Berlin wall,
Switzerland and Los Angeles - where she spent months as an Au-pair to gain more international experience,
Moscow - where she was asked to work as a church assistant and musical leader.

SPIRITUAL DESTINY
These experiences awakened in her a desire to be in the spiritual ministry - so she went to a Bible Collage in Berlin, where she met her future husband, got married and moved to the city of Cottbus to pioneer a free evangelical church, she and her husband still are pastoring.

PEOPLE AND DANCERS
To her - people are the most fascinating "thing" in the world. This fascination is rooted in her childhood experiences as a kid of medical doctors, who let her accompany them as they visited patients or let her assist them when people came to their home in urgent need of help, and who generally displayed a life dedicated to serving people.
So since childhood Amray loved to draw
people´s faces or dancers, since she dreamt of becoming a dancer although she had never even once seen a ballet - the mere elegance and aura on fotographs of dancers intrigued her and made her practice dancing for hours.

LONELY PARADISE
Her childhood house was built on a hill - flooded with sunlight coming through the exraordinary big windows. On this hill - where hardly anyone came to visit - she spent many hours all by herself, walking through the huge garden, the big house - and spending time with her animals who were giving her comforting company in her lonely paradise.
Her love of animals has derived from this time of special friendship and she loves to paint them.

TOUCHING MUSIC
While in ministry she discovered how music would so deeply touch her to tears, that she decided to go further into music, taking drum-lessons, singing-lessons, guitar-lessons, writing songs and arranging them, which led to the production of 2 CD´s and various concerts and a two year engagement as a drummer and actress in a theatre in Cottbus. She ended up studying contemporary singing pedagogy.

THE CALL FOR THE ARTS
Her husband´s passion for fine arts and painting started her own painting career and thus they had exhibitions and she started selling paintings or painted on demand.
After giving birth to 2 wonderful daughters, her focus turned more towards her chilrdren for some years, but as they grew older, the call for the arts returned.
On discovering her jewish roots she repeatedly spent some time in Israel and this influence can be found in some of her works.
Currently she is studying fine arts at the School of Fine Art and Design, Berlin.
